Screen time for Muslims: a faith-first guide to using your phone less

The average person spends hours a day on their phone. For a Muslim, the real question is not how many hours, but what those hours are pushing out.

Time is a trust

Allah swears by time in Surah Al-Asr: "By time, indeed mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience" (Quran 103:1-3). Our hours are not ours to waste, and our phones are the biggest place they disappear.

Protect three things first

  1. Your five prayers. The scroll does its worst damage at the adhan. Block your most distracting apps at prayer time with Salah Mode.
  2. Your sleep before Fajr. Late-night scrolling is the number one reason people miss Fajr. A Downtime schedule quiets your apps at night.
  3. Your morning. Start the day with Fajr, adhkar or Quran before the feed. A good morning makes a good day.

The HayatTime Focus Hub

HayatTime's Focus Hub puts six protections in one place:

  • Salah Mode: apps pause at every prayer time
  • Downtime: apps go quiet while you sleep
  • Screen Limit: a daily cap on your total phone time, with an allow-list for apps you always need
  • App Limits: a daily budget for individual apps
  • Guard My Gaze: filters explicit content
  • Fajr Alarm: rings until you photograph your sink or prayer mat

All of it runs on Apple's Screen Time framework, entirely on your iPhone. HayatTime never sees which apps you use.

Replace, don't just remove

Blocking leaves a gap. Fill it with something small and good: a two-minute lesson, a page of Quran, your dhikr count. That is why HayatTime pairs its blocks with bite-sized Islamic lessons and a Prayer Garden that grows with every prayer.

Quick answers

What does Islam say about wasting time?

The Quran swears by time itself in Surah Al-Asr (103:1-3), and says all of humanity is in loss except those who believe, do good, and encourage truth and patience. Time is treated as a trust, not something to kill.

What is a good screen time limit?

There is no single number. A useful rule is to protect three things first: your five prayers, your sleep before Fajr, and the first hour of your morning. HayatTime's Screen Limit lets you set a daily cap on your total phone time.
