How to block TikTok and Instagram during salah on iPhone

You hear the adhan, you think "one more video", and forty minutes later the prayer window is closing. Here is how to take that decision off the table.

Why willpower loses to TikTok

TikTok, Reels and Shorts are designed to never give you a natural stopping point. The adhan arrives in the middle of a feed that has no end. Deciding to stop in that moment is the hardest possible time to decide anything. The fix is to decide before, when your iman is high, and let your phone hold the line for you.

Option 1: Apple's built-in Downtime (manual)

iPhone's own Screen Time lets you schedule Downtime. You could create a schedule around each prayer, but prayer times change every day, and Apple only gives you one Downtime schedule. In practice it does not work for five moving prayer times.

Option 2: HayatTime Salah Mode (automatic)

  1. Download HayatTime and set your location, so prayer times are calculated for your city.
  2. Open Focus Hub and tap Salah Mode.
  3. Choose which prayers to block (all five, or only the ones you struggle with).
  4. Choose how long apps stay paused after the adhan.
  5. Pick the apps to block with Apple's app picker: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, games, anything.
  6. Switch it on. From now on, at every prayer time those apps show a calm "It's time for Maghrib" screen instead of the feed.

Prayer times shift every day and HayatTime follows them automatically, so you set it once and forget it.

Want it stricter? Turn on Prayer Proof

With Prayer Proof on, the blocked apps stay locked until you take a quick photo of your prayer mat or the masjid. The photo is checked on your iPhone and never uploaded. It turns "I'll pray after this" into "I'll scroll after I pray".

It is not a prison

You set the rules, and you can change them. The goal is not to punish yourself. It is to break the autopilot at the one moment it matters most. Most people find that the ten-second pause where TikTok will not open is all it takes. Read more in why you keep scrolling instead of praying.

Quick answers

Can I block apps during prayer time on iPhone?

Yes. HayatTime's Salah Mode uses Apple's Screen Time framework to pause the apps you choose automatically at each of the five prayer times, for a window you set.

Does blocking apps at prayer time need a password?

No. You choose the apps once inside HayatTime using Apple's own app picker. Everything runs on your iPhone and HayatTime never sees which apps you picked.
