How to block explicit content on iPhone and guard your gaze

Lowering the gaze is a command in the Quran. On a phone full of algorithms, it also needs a plan.

Why a plan matters

Allah says: "Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts; that is purer for them" (Quran 24:30), and the next verse gives the same command to believing women. Your phone is designed to show you things you did not search for. Relying only on willpower is relying on your weakest moment.

Step 1: Apple's built-in restriction

In Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → App Store & iTunes / Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites. It is a good baseline, but it is easy to switch off again.

Step 2: HayatTime Guard My Gaze

In HayatTime's Focus Hub, Guard My Gaze automatically blocks adult sites, and you can lock your commitment for a set number of days so it cannot be undone in a weak moment. It runs on your iPhone, and nothing about your browsing is sent anywhere.

Step 3: Remove the triggers

  • Unfollow accounts that pull you in the wrong direction.
  • Limit the apps where it happens most with App Limits and Downtime.
  • Keep your phone out of the bedroom at night.

If you slip

Allah's door of repentance is open: "Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins" (Quran 39:53). A slip is a reason to strengthen your system, not to give up.
