Eid al-Fitr 2027: expected date, the Eid prayer and its sunnahs

Eid al-Fitr 2027 is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027, marking the end of Ramadan 1448.

The expected date

Eid al-Fitr falls on 1 Shawwal, the day after Ramadan ends. For 1448 AH it is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027. Whether Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days depends on the sighting of the new moon, so confirm with your local mosque.

Zakat al-Fitr: before the prayer

Every Muslim who is able pays Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of themselves and their dependants, and it must be given before the Eid prayer. Its purpose is to purify the fast and make sure no one is left without food on the day of Eid. Many mosques and charities collect it in the last days of Ramadan. The amount is set locally, so check with your mosque.

The Eid prayer

The Eid prayer is two rak'ahs, prayed in congregation after sunrise, usually in the morning. It has extra takbirs at the start of each rak'ah and is followed by a khutbah. There is no adhan or iqamah for it.

Sunnahs of the day of Eid

  • Take a bath (ghusl) and wear your best clothes.
  • Eat something before going to the prayer. The Prophet ﷺ would eat an odd number of dates before leaving on Eid al-Fitr (Sahih al-Bukhari 953).
  • Say the takbir on the way to the prayer.
  • Go by one route and return by another.
  • Greet people with “Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minkum” (may Allah accept from us and from you).

Keep what Ramadan built

The real test of Ramadan is Shawwal. Many people let their prayers and Quran slip the week after Eid. Fasting six days of Shawwal is a strong sunnah, and keeping your five prayers on time is the habit worth protecting most. HayatTime's Prayer Garden and prayer streak make that consistency something you can see, long after Ramadan ends. See also our Ramadan 2027 guide.
